Frequently Asked Questions

Geographically speaking, West Hollywood is a city located in Los Angeles County, bordered by the cities of Beverly Hills and Los Angeles. But really, we consider West Hollywood to be the cultural heart of California. Known as “The Creative City,” WeHo officially incorporated in 1984 and has a population of approximately 35,000. The WeHo area encompasses the legendary  Sunset Strip, the West Hollywood Design District, and famed streets like Sunset Boulevard, Melrose Avenue, and Santa Monica Boulevard.

Absolutely. In fact, West Hollywood is known as “Walkable WeHo” and since 2011, it’s been rated the most walkable city in California. Download the city’s guidebook, WeHo to Go, for information on maps, bike routes and lanes, recommended walks, Zipcar stations, rapid transit options, and much more.

We’re happy to offer our Audi e-tron house car service for rides within a three-mile radius of the hotel. The house car is available on a first-come basis from 9am to 9pm daily. To explore destinations beyond this radius, we invite you to reserve the all-electric Audi e-tron for a test-drive for up to two hours once during your stay. To learn more, click here.

Definitely! Check out the WeHo to Go guidebook and WeHo Without Wheels for more information on how to get around West Hollywood and the surrounding Los Angeles area via train, bus, and bike.

It’s approximately 10 miles from West Hollywood to Venice Beach. Depending on traffic, you’re looking at 40 minutes to 1 hour with an Uber or Lyft.

West Hollywood Park is located at 647 N. San Vicente Boulevard, just over a mile southwest of 1 Hotel West Hollywood. It offers everything from basketball and tennis courts to a children’s play area and a public pool, and it hosts athletic, community, and cultural outreach events throughout the year.

Yes! Our West Hollywood hotel is only a mile northwest of the world-famous gay bar, The Abbey Food & Bar. It’s hard to believe that The Abbey initially started out as a small coffee shop back in 1991. Over the years, it’s expanded substantially to a 16,000-square-foot venue featuring four bars and a full menu until 2AM. Today, The Abbey is regarded as one of the best gay bars in the world and one of the most popular nightlife destinations in Los Angeles.

We get asked this question a lot, since 1 Hotel West Hollywood is very much a pet-friendly hotel. (Dog owners and pets alike especially love the fluffy dog beds we provide.)

But if you want to amp your doggy diet, Just Food for Dogs offers freshly prepared meals from human-grade ingredient, nutritionally balanced for your pet's needs! They’ll deliver directly to your hotel room, or you can visit the West Hollywood Kitchen location at 7870 Santa Monica Boulevard—and watch your dog’s food being made at the only open kitchens in the pet-food industry.

*Minimum $50 purchase for free delivery.

West Hollywood is a fantastic—and safe—place to explore. The city is a high-energy melting pot of progressive people and artistic spirits, and is widely regarded as California’s creative center of culture, design, and entertainment. It’s worth mentioning, though, that West Hollywood is quite popular with tourists, who can occasionally be unsuspecting. So, practice common sense, as you would in any major city, and make sure to keep things locked and possessions secure.

Generally, the weather in West Hollywood varies slightly from season to season, but remains mild and temperate year-round.

Average Temperatures:

Fall (September to November): 55–75°F (15–25°C)
Winter (December to February): 40–70°F (5–20°C)
Spring (March to May): 50–75°F (10–25°C)
Summer (June to August): 55–90°F (15–35°C)

Spring, summer, and fall are usually warm and dry, while rain occasionally makes an appearance in winter, peaking in February. Here’s the most up-to-date West Hollywood forecast.

From art openings to improv shows, there’s always something new happening in WeHo. The Visit West Hollywood website is a great resource for upcoming West Hollywood events.

This question should probably be, “What’s NOT in West Hollywood?” because everything you could possibly imagine can be found in WeHo.

To start with, the West Hollywood restaurant and bar scene is fantastic—especially along the Sunset Strip, which runs 1.6 miles along Sunset Boulevard from Crescent Heights Boulevard to Sierra Drive. It’s home to excellent boutiques and restaurants, as well as famous concert clubs like The RoxyThe Viper Room (which is now open for happy hour, 4pm-7pm), and Whiskey A Go-Go, and comedy hotspots The Comedy Store and Laugh Factory.

With WeHo being such a hotbed of creativity, there are dozens of local art galleries. Moran Bondaroff and Hamilton-Selway Fine Art are just two of the stand-outs. There are also the shops of Melrose Avenue, and the West Hollywood Design District, where “over 250 global merchants and creative leaders have chosen the walkable radius of Melrose Avenue, Beverly Boulevard, and Robertson Boulevard as their West Coast home.”

Local nearby attractions include the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre for the latest movie premieres, The Hollywood Bowl for the best in concerts, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the La Brea Tar Pits & Museum, the Getty Center, and the world’s most famous sidewalk: the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Just a few miles east of West Hollywood is Runyon Canyon, where you can hike the Hollywood Hills and get killer views of Los Angeles. And if you want to hit the famed LA beaches, Malibu, Santa Monica, Venice, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Redondo Beach are all within 20 miles.

And of course, every October 31st, there’s the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval—one of the biggest Halloween celebration in the world. This annual public event takes place on Santa Monica Boulevard between North Doheny Drive and La Cienega Boulevard, and features multiple entertainment stages, live music, bar specials, and some of the best people-watching you’ll ever experience.

West Hollywood is best known for its vibrant, inclusive atmosphere and cultural significance, anchored by iconic spots like Santa Monica Boulevard, a part of historic Route 66. This lively stretch serves as the heart of the city’s renowned LGBTQ+ scene, filled with unique shops, top-rated restaurants, and nightlife that draws visitors from around the world. West Hollywood combines Hollywood glamour with a progressive, welcoming spirit, making it a celebrated destination for those seeking creativity, diversity, and unforgettable experiences.

Stroll along the Sunset Strip to soak in the lively energy of West Hollywood, with its famous music venues, eclectic shops, and outdoor dining spots. Head to Melrose Avenue for a mix of high-end boutiques and quirky street art, or wander the quieter, tree-lined streets of the West Hollywood Design District to discover unique galleries, design studios, and hidden gems.
