Transparency Dashboard

Last Friday, we were joined by millions of people from around the world that came together to celebrate something that unites us all, the Earth.  Whether you wait every year to celebrate this event or you are someone who believes that every day is Earth Day, last Friday was a time to pause and be mindful of our connection to a larger world that we share with other living creatures. We took the time this year to celebrate and reflect at both our properties in New York and Miami.

1 Hotel Central Park partnered with Earth Day Initiative for their second annual Earth Day 5K Green Tour. Participants of the 5k walk started the day at 1 Hotel Central Park and then moved on to the Lowline, an underground park on the Lower East Side, before heading to Cinema Village to take part in a special preview of Love Thy Nature, an immersive nature documentary narrated by Liam Neeson. The day ended with a visit to the Natural Gourmet Institute for a natural and sustainable food cooking demonstration. Walkers then collected lunch prepared by NGI chefs and headed to nearby Madison Square Park to enjoy lunch outdoors.

1 Hotel South Beach kicked off the day with Wellthily to host an Earth Day themed yoga and meditation session, then celebrated their second annual Earth Day celebration with live music by Afrobeta, light bites by Beachcraft and complimentary signature cocktails by Tom on Collins.

More on Earth Day here

This special day to celebrate our planet and recognize how we can hurt or help it has never been more essential than it is today. The year 2015 was the warmest year ever recorded since accurate record keeping began in 1880, reinforcing the reality of a global warming trend.  The challenges we face as a global community to protect and preserve our environment have never been so great.

We feel delighted that Earth Days corresponds with a very special milestone for the 1 Hotels family– as we pass the 1 year mark in the growth and evolution of our young brand.  Since we first opened our doors last March, and set out with our mission to celebrate nature, we have learned so much more about what we can do to be better. We have been humbled by both the challenges to operate at the high standards of sustainability we have set out to meet, as well as by our Team Members and guests who have risen to and exceeded so many of our expectations to make the environment a priority.

We continue our journey with the release of our Transparency Dashboard, an honest and authentic approach to radical transparency that is the voice of our sustainability practices.  Our desire is to continue a dialogue with you about how we are meeting up to our standards, our success and our failures, so that the rest of the world can learn from us and grow with us. Last Friday, when we launched the dashboard on Earth Day, our friends at Conde Nast Traveler shared our excitement with a fantastic write-up on what we are working on.

Every day, we are committed to this path and to operating in the most sustainable way to enable the best experiences for our company, our guests, and others who follow us, celebrating nature every day and in every way.
